Pipeline Integrity Management System
MSi's Pipeline Integrity Management System™
is a proprietary, dynamic, rigorous multiphase pipeline modeling
application designed to assist operators in real-time, on-line monitoring
of the operational integrity of single phase and multiphase pipelines
and related facilities. It is capable of fully-integrated, asset-wide
monitoring of single-phase, two-phase and three-phase flow in wells,
gathering lines, major trunklines, and distribution systems and
includes the capability to model pertinent topsides or downstream
processing facilities, including separators, scrubbers, compressors,
pumps, wing valves, chokes, etc.
At the heart of each MSi package is field-proven,
multiphase simulation technology that has been in use in real-time,
on-line, day-to-day field operations for over a decade. As such,
PIMS is not your garden variety, off-line, design multiphase
simulator that others have attempted to retrofit for real-time,
dynamic operations. The dynamic model contained in PIMS is
a generalized, multiphase-flow model designed and built from the
ground-up since "Day One" for exacting demands of real-time,
real-world applications.
Features
Ras Laffan PIMS
|
PIMS offer a very robust, user-friendly simulation platform
for a myriad of Fit-For-Purpose real-time applications, both
as a standalone package as well as integrated into the Virtual Pipeline
Manager™ platform. PIMS is designed to achieve extremely
fast run-time speeds (500 to 200,000 x real-time) while maintaining
the computational stability needed for day-in/day-out, real-time,
on-line oil and gas industry operations, particularly in multiphase
pipeline operations.
Each MSi packages are custom-designed to provide full-range of
functionalities including accurate real-time information on the
hydraulic and thermal conditions, alarm and advise the controllers
on events that can jeopardize operational integrity and provide
valuable information on potential outcomes of given operational
events and scenarios.
With each package, the Control Room Operators are given timely
advance on operational issues, providing valuable information that
is always at their finger tips to make quick, informed decisions.
Fit-For-Purpose Applications
MSi's PIMS has been used for a number of real-time, on-line
applications, including leak detection and location, predicting
liquids accumulation and movement throughout a pipeline network,
tracking gas/liquids and contaminant/inhibitor distribution and
composition, production blending management advisory, accurately
forecasting line pack and unpack dynamics, and tracking sphere/scraper
position, hydrate monitoring and inhibitor dosage management, etc.
Example On-Line Applications
- LEAK DETECTION & LOCATION
Fast & accurate size & location, while minimizing false
alarms, multiphase and single-phase operations
- COMPOSITION & BATCH TRACKING

Rigorous Model-Based Leak Detection & Location
Package
(Multiphase & Single-Phase Operations)
MSi's PIMS-based leak detection systems provide accurate
detection and determination of leak location even in very large,
complicated multiphase and single-phase networks, while maintaining
robustness and high system availability. MSi's leak detection systems
provide the most reliable, robust, accurate, user-friendly solution
for a variety of operational scenarios.
As mentioned earlier, the dynamic model contained in PIMS
is a generalized, multiphase-flow model designed and built for real-time,
real-world applications. It is not a single-phase model retrofitted
for use for multiphase leak detection operations.
PIMS is an extremely robust, rigorous real-time, on-line
multiphase simulation package. All our packages offer full expansion
capability to pipeline and asset management systems, providing fit-for-purpose
monitoring, control and optimization functionalities.
MSi currently markets the only rigorous,
Model-Based Leak Detection System for
a broad range of conditions, including multiphase (e.g. two-phase
and three-phase flow) and single-phase flow (e.g. gas or liquid
pipeline) operations.
MSi delivers each PIMS-based leak detection package, fully
configured to detect and locate leaks on the pipeline for "Day
One", coupled with our field-proven "finger-print"
pattern-recognition technology,
ready for the full-range of transient and steady-state multiphase
and single-phase operations.
MSi systems employ one model that can be used for single-phase
gas, single-phase liquid and multiphase (gas/liquid and gas/liquid/liquid)
operations, for full flexibility in case operational conditions
changes in various sections of a given complex network (e.g. offshore
gathering lines that are multiphase and on-shore single-phase pipelines
that may develop into slack line operations).
